I had the Petmate magnetic cat flap before this. It lasted for over 13 years but eventually stopped working. Really liked the idea of a microchip catflap as it solves the problem of my cat losing her collar every time she gets in a fight, and then being stuck outside. I was a bit reluctant after reading the amount of reviews stating it doesn’t work, but I have found it to be excellent. Installation was easy as this is only 5 mm wider than the previous catflap. It fitted in the existing cut out, just needed a bit of wood to fill the gap at the bottom. Programmed first time, and my cat found it easy to get in on the first attempt. There have been a few comments about how loud the click is on the opening mechanism. It really isn’t that bad, just slightly louder than my previous magnetic cat flap. My cat jumps at most things but this just got a confused look for a couple of times and now she isn’t bothered at all. I think it’s a great product. Myself and cat are very happy with it.

Hoping to help out anyone who buys this flap… as the instructions miss some vital details.First and most importantly; The catflap needs to be pushed against before the lock disengages. this action triggers the device and tells it to scan for a chip (saves battery in the long run) – at this point the lock disengages.1. It will mean you get a split second where pushing does not open the flap, prior to it being openable.2. The sound of the lock disengaging (a mild clunk) combined with the above, may lead your cat to back off initially until it gets used to these two changes from the breeze of walking straight through a normal catflap. It’s nothing to worry about, but takes a little more perseverance/training if you have a timid/shy cat. Also to ‘learn’ your cats microchip, the instructions state:1. Press the learning button for 5 sec – until a solid red light appears2. pass your cat through & it should start flashing red3. press the button to ‘save’ the learned chipWhen you press the button to save – it doesnt immediatly ‘save’ sometimes it took me a couple of presses, or I had to wait for 10 seconds before it worked. But you have done nothing wrong, it’s worked.Anyway other than that, which I feel the instruction book could have been a bit clearer on, It works perfectly. The company were really helpful and patient with me because i thought it was faulty at first, they even sent an ID tag in the post so I could do more troubleshooting. But I’m really happy with it and would recommend it.

I bought this as a replacement for another brand that I had for a few years before It became very temperamental before it finally failed. The other was mains – this is battery powered.I found it difficult to install. Cutting the odd shaped hole was awkward enough but I then had to drill out the casing and use nuts and bolts to fasten the 2 sections together as I do not have the strength in my hands to fix it as per the instructions. (I am an arthritic 72 year old admittedly.)The 3 cats took some time getting used to it. The old one had a scanner above so they had to ‘walk tall’ until they heard the click, this one scans as they push at the bottom of the door. It won’t release the catch until the door is pushed. So why the 5 stars? It works! It seems utterly reliable, it ALWAYS open to allow my cats in (once they had learned the technique) and NEVER opens to attempts by others. It is good thick, chunky plastic which seems virtually unbreakable and the battery life seems reasonable as I haven’t had to replace them yet. I actually bought a second one for when the first wears out because the hole cut in the door is such an awkward shape it wouldn’t fit a different make of cat flap and the makers might change the design long before this one gives up the ghost. Hence a ready replacement.Do I recommend it?I don’t think a young kitten would have the strength to operate it. Also a very timid cat may give up too easily as the door needs to be pushed very firmly right at the base before it will open.It is a very simple, sturdy design and likely to wear well without becoming temperamental. It has a simple 4 way mechanical lock system in addition, so no need to try to find the instruction book in a hurry to lock the cat in or out in an emergency. The door catch closes as the cat comes through so they is no significant delay during which another unwanted cat could enter.I would look at the fitting instructions before buying – especially the size and shape of the hole to cut out of the door, as it is unlikely to fit as a direct replacement for a different brand.I like it, the cats all use it easily, it keeps out unwanted cats, therefore I can honestly recommend it.

We had half the neighbourhoods cats coming into our house to pinch our cats food and it was making them very stressed and costing us a fortune. This has solved all our problems. It is really easy to programme and other than occasionally changing the batteries (once every 6 month to a year for 2 cats who sit right next to it making it click for 5 minutes at a time!) A red light flashes when the batteries are low and when they run out the cats can just come and go (it doesn’t lock). Overall it’s an expensive product but it is very well made, does work very well and we are very happy with ours.

Was easy to fit in our UPVC Back door.. Very easy to programme the cat flap to his microchip before fitting it into the back door. This was the first time our cat had a cat flap so he was a little wary at first especially when it clicked after recognising his microchip. He is a 6kg cat and we wondered if he would be able to fit through the flap but he doesnt have any problem getting in and out. It took him about 1 week to get used to using it properly. We were holding the flap open at first to encourage him to come through the opening and then encouraged him to push the flap open himself by offering food on the other side of the flap. Excellent product and keeps the neighbouring cats out so he feels safe in his home. Would definitely recommend this product. Good price too compared to similar products.

Love this cat flap,so simple to set up,takes 4 batteries no separate box like the more expensive catflaps, which need plugging in near the catflap. This is a simple one you just run the cat flap over your cats head to pick up the chip.Or if yours isnt chipped run the tag through the catflap and attach the tag to your cats collar. It can hold up to 30 different chips which is good if you have lots of pets,a small dog could pass through it chiwawa size.We paid local joiner £40 to fit it but if your handy with a jigsaw it would be easy to fit yourself. The flap is sealed with a brush edge so no draghts. After dangling a toy the other side my 10 month kitten was soon going in and out.Keeps neighbourhood cats out and gives my cat some freedom, shes now stopped scratching my banister !

i originally gave this 1 star, that has changed.Original issue – wouldn’t read the 1 cats chip all the time, so had no confidence in leaving it set overnight or when outhow resolvedthe door the flap is in has a step of about a foot from the bottom of the flap to the ground., as such the cat was stretching to get in and I assume the chip was not in a position to be read, I built a step so that cat is at a reasonable level to the flapworks a treat, both cats can get in each time, the neighbourhood cat who’s bee nicking the food and spraying can’t get in, and as such is not hanging around so no fights, perfect

This cat flap was easy to install in an existing round opening in our double glazed door once I bought the additional glass panel filler to go with it.Replaced a broken magnetic cat mate flap which was over ten years old and we were getting other cats into the house at night. At first it seemed a little flimsy however after over six months it is still going strong and been no trouble at all.Be aware that the tunnel is longer than a regular cat flap and it might take your cat some time to get used to it. The cat has to put her head into the tunnel for the latch to operate which took our cat a few days to work out and there is an audible click when the latch opens that also freaked her out. She was locked out for a couple of days and we had to manually hold the flap open so she would come in. There is also a lip on the outside of the tunnel which took our cat a while to get used to.After much careful placement of dreamies and favourite snacks to tempt her to put her head into the tunnel, she finally worked it out, that was it and no further enticement was needed.Setting the flap to recognise the rfid on the cats chip was relatively easy requiring holding the cat next to the flap and pressing the set buttons. Not a single intrusion from other cats since installed.Would recommend this and the additional glass panel.

This micro chip cat flat is great but you do need to give it & your cat time. After the 1st 24rs we were not sure and like some people said our cat was often locked out. Or that’s how it appeared. With this cat flat the cat needs to put its head in to activate the catch. we noticed our cat was trying to open with his paw. (meaning his head was not near enough & we thought it was not working properly) You can put it in training mode (by taking one batterie out) which means it does not need chip to open. We felt as our cat was used to a cat flap that training mode would just confuse him when we altered it to chip mode. So we put it in chip mode and he soon got used to it. Had a week now and he loves it. try putting treats in flap to start with. works wonders.

The cat flap is great. Can’t fault it. However what I can fault is our cat. We bought it given his mate was always coming round to play, and was becoming a big nuisance. Eating us out of house and home, and never once said thanks. Bought the product, installed, all good. No next door neighbour problems if the door was shut. Then I discovered that the batteries had run out. And his mate never came round. Thought it’d died. Nopes. Turned out our cat had grown a pair and hammered nine bells out of it. Many times. All I had to do was wait until he’d fully developed his sociopath skillz … and we could have bought one for a tenner from Argos with the same result.
