We woke up to find a stray cat in out house one night, scent marking all our furniture and terrorising our own cat. We had a cat flap/tunnel through a wall but just a free-for-all flap for the last 8 years, no other cats dared to come in as we had a very large dog. Sadly we lost the dog and within a week we had a local feral/stray cat in the house, having spoken to all the neighbours with cats they’ve all had this intruder too and they have all also bought this cat flap.Since our cat was already microchipped and we already had an existing cat tunnel and cat flap it was a no-brainer to buy this. The unit doesn’t come with batteries so make sure you have 4x AA batteries to hand. I put the batteries in, pressed the learn button and then put it on the floor and enticed my cat through the flap with some treats. As soon as the cat went through you heard a noise and the light flashed and that’s it, programming complete. I testing two more times with my cat passing through the flap before fitting it, this not only helped her get used to the mechanism but also reassured me that the flap was reading her chip correctly. The existing cat tunnel was from a different brand but fortunately it fits with this, I just had to trim a very small portion of one of the existing tunnel extenders and it all went together well. The motor/mechanism to release the flap is very quiet. We had a chip reading cat flap about 10 years ago which needed special chips on a collar and made a lot of noise which scared the cats. This is incredibly quiet and doesn’t scare our cat when it releases. It’s done the job, we’ve witnessed the intruder cat trying to get in without success and backing out of the tunnel (and then scent marking it in frustration).Highly recommend this cat flap to anybody worried about intruder cats.

This is a cracking cat flap. As the chipped monsters (sorry, the chipped kittens) grew and became ready for outside, it was clear that we’d want some control of what they did (ie when they could come/go), and more importantly, how we were going to keep the several other cats (a couple of which are curious nosy and bulshy little fellas) out of house.Lots of review reading (mainly on here against other products) later and this was the choice – and I do not regret it.The boys didn’t take long to get the hang of it – one is one of those curious nosy bulshy types I mentioned above – so much so that he does this hilarious Superman dive through it even time he goes out. Our other one is a little neurotic (the wife says sensible, but meh) and much more nervous reserved and careful so it took him a bit longer. The manual says tempt with ham/meat/etc – heck just rattle the cat treats on the other side of the door with it propped slightly open, he’ll soon get the jist. Mr Neurotic our end had a slow start but realised he had to man up if he didn’t want to miss out on the adventure outside.Folks do say some folks get a bit scared by the clicking. Again if your cat is a bit sensitive this maybe the case at first but persevere. They do realise in the end that actually to come in that the click is a good thing and means they can come in.I was a bit worried about the draft initally, and whilst there is a very small one despite the furry flap edges in the frame, it’s not that bad. That said my flap is installed 90 degrees from the direction of wind – the wind cannot hit it straight on and it does look like you can kinda see between the flap edge and furry insulation and the outside world, so this might be a problem for others. The other thing to note (that doesn’t bother us due to the location) is it looks OK and not too bulky from the inside (which is the side you can see in the main picture here on Amazon), but some my find it pig ugly on the outside due to the surround over the sensors – it does stick out a good couple of inches. This is a practical element for the cat flap, but yeah, if the cat flap is in a prominent location and you want a discreet cat flap, again please consider carefully. So far in the past 2.5 months the sensors haven’t become that blocked. Unlike the state of the rest of the cat flap, with its mud and leaves dragged in by the monsters, so whilst I’ve had to clean the cat flap, the sensors haven’t been affected. Range on the sensors is good and we’ve had no problems so far. I leave the cat flap set so that they can ALWAYS get in (even when locked in, just in case they do one day break out when they shouldn’t) and we’ve had some noses up against the flap trying to get in, but as expected, no unwanted visitors. The only way such an unwanted visitor can get in, is if (s)he tailgates your own cat in, and that isn’t going to happen unless they’re friends and your cat is trying to have an unauthorised party whilst you’re out (who needs teenagers?)Lastly, our cats are not allowed out yet after dark. We’re both long day workers spread over the 7 days, so some days neither one of us in until a few hours after sunset. We get some help from the neighbours and family if we know we’re going to be late (don’t worry, they’re not neglected when we’re gone, they get plenty of visitors and love!), however I do wonder if I should’ve looked for a chip cat flap with timer. That’s not a limitation of this cat flap, this does more than I expected better tahn I expected – but if you are reading this, do consider when your cat(s) is allowed out, and if you’re around to lock ’em in.For what I wanted tho, great cat flap and so far so good. If we do have a disaster I’ll update this, but I don’t think I’ll need to. Anyway, too much chat, hope this helps folks, I’ll shut up now.

I have had this flap for a long time now. It is made of a good quality plastic. Setting up was easy and it fitted into a pre-made hole the size in the description. We have two cats both of which refused to use it. After much coaxing the younger one started using it to go out but not in. This took a week. Another week and he sometimes came in through it. A further week and it’s like a train tunnel to him in and out 24 hours a day.The older cat would not go near it, I think its the click when the catch opens. After 6 weeks he was going out through it and a week later he too was using it like a train tunnel.Batteries are showing no signs of failure after four months. We had the flap because the cats wake us up between 02:00 and 04:00 to go out. The flap cures that problem. Now they wake us up to tell us they are going out and when they come back in. Can’t win with cats.I was concerned about the reports of the flap being a little small. I have watched them using it and found no evidence of it being too small. It looks small but we have a three-year-old and a one-year-old cat who have no problems at all.

Bought this a year or so ago for the furry overlord. Worried that it may have been difficult to sync the cat, but it all went well and was easier than I thought. Still have both arms. Other reviews made me wonder if there would be a draft, or if it may not be secure enough to keep the cat brothers from next door (aka “the Krays”) out. In the end no noticable draft and the Krays remain outside. Took Junior a while to figure out that only he could come and go as he pleased though and he kept guard for a few weeks. Seems to have accepted that it only lets him in now. Battery life is also better than I thought. I used Duracell Industrial and they are still working a year on, despite the packaging suggesting to change batteries quarterly or so. Guess it just depends on the quality of the batteries you use. So, all said and done, after a year I have no issues at all and so I’m giving the door five stars and a hearty recommendation. Only downside is that the ginger oaf brings home little furry friends to meet me and I really don’t want an introduction. I could lock him out I guess, but he’s sooo fluffy!!! I fear I may be addicted to Floof.

A great purchase! Our cats didn’t have a cat flap before (we just let them in and out as they requested) but with a baby on the way we’ve restricted their access to upstairs and thought it was only fair to enable them to let them have their own access. One big thing that has put us off having a cat flap is the number of cats in our neighbourhood that might try to sneak into our house so we went for this one and the microchip thing works perfectly! Another thing that put us off was the potential difficulty of installing it in a UPVC door but it wasn’t nearly as difficult as we expected and the instructions were great. Slightly more difficult than an IKEA flat pack but if you can draw around things and saw in a reasonably straight line you’ll be able to do this. Our cats took a few days to be convinced that it was a good idea (the sound of the lock disengaging put them off at first) but they soon got over it and are using it all the time.

Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap …4 years ago I purchased this item and fitted it to the back door. It stopped uninvited cats from a free B&B event. Easy to install and programme. Installation does need somebody competent with a tape measure and hand tools. The cat flap still works well. It does need a regular clean, not forgetting the top of the entrance tunnel as that is where the “magic” happens and reads the moggies “chip”. I have found that the “manual lock” does get full of muck/hair etc. and gets very stiff to operate. I’ve stripped the unit a couple of times which again is relatively easy to do to clean it properly and regain the lock function which only gets used when its flea/worm pill/vet trip time! I’ve four active young cats and generally get through a set of batteries once a year. I would highly recommend this product but it is not “maintenance” free. I also have had issues where the delivery person has forced the mail through if we are out. The flap does not like this as the mail doesn’t wear a micro chip! I have put a label on it requesting not to use as a mail box. I trust this is of use to somebody contemplating this purchase, I would buy another if I needed to.

We bought this cat flap in summer 2017. It was easy to fit and worked well for over a year. There was a difficulty about 6 months ago when it did not open and close properly. After filling in a questionnaire, the company identified the problem and sent the necessary replacement part and instructions and all was well againRecently our two cats have given the flap a real bashing and cracked the plastic flap that stopped it working. An email setting out the problem and asking for a replacement flap, for which would happily pay as the damage was beyond reasonable use, was met with a new flap sent by return of post, and all free of charge. This is exceptional service which we truly appreciate. Lovely people to do business with.

Bought this due to a local Tomcat’s arrival on the scene and his smelly habit of swamping everywhere. It was bought to go into a pre-existing hole that was cut into a double glazed French door. The existing hole is 210 mm in diameter and I was told to buy the adapter (by the manufacturer who i emailed) as well so I could install it properly. You’ll see from the photo that it was needed. To put it together was easy as and so was the programming. Just put a cat treat/kibble inside the cat flap whilst your holding it, following the instruction booklet and as the cat reaches in to grab it, the cat flap registers that one cat. Repeat steps for all other cats as needed. Booklet lays it all out and fitting it couldn’t be easier. Now I just need to find a way to stop the Tom from spraying the outer skin of the house and all will be well.

I chose this cat flap as we live in the city and there are several other cats in the area which I know would come in our house if given the chance. So a microchip cat flap was a necessity – and I can confirm that it definitely works, on multiple occasions we’ve had neighbouring cats battering against it trying to get in, but it holds fast.As others have said, it’s worth programming it to your cat before fitting, as it’s a lot easier to coax the cat into the flap that way.It was easy enough to fit, I cut the hole myself in our PVC door, using a drill and an electric jigsaw. Our door is thick PVC multi-locking point door, and I wasn’t actually sure what would be in the middle of it (seemed too thick to be plastic all the way through), I found inside it is foam insulation, fine to cut through as long as you don’t go too near the edges where the metal locking mechanism is.The hole doesn’t need to be 100% exact as the outer casing will cover up a few millimetres error, although obviously not too much. I marked out the shape, and found that the hole I first cut was a little on the small side, but I was able to shave away in the right places until it just fitted. It took a while to train our rescue kitten to use it as she had never encountered a cat flap before and is quite timid. The first few days we actually had to tape it open all the time, because she would not have gone through it if she had to push. Once she was happy going through it, and having the freedom to go outside, we gradually lowered it a bit each day, until she had to push it open herself. We weren’t sure at first whether she would understand that she needed to be in the right place for the microchip to registered and unlock, but she seems to have no problem with that part of it.We’ve been using it for two years now and so far I’ve had to replace the batteries once, when I noticed the light flashing. I do get worried about it running out whilst we’re on holiday, but we only ever leave her unattended for a couple of days (with an automated feeder) and I think she would be okay during that time – if you are very worried, you could change the batteries before you go away.

Cat and owner bliss!I was very dubious about spending this amount on a cap flat, but it has transformed our lives. Our cat loves going out at night and returning very vocally between 5 and 6am. She woke me every morning early and I had to get up and let her in. I am sure that the neighbour’s were also disturbed. There is also a tom cat always trying to get in to eat her food. Now, our cat can get in and out when she wants and I get a good nights sleep. The cat flap arrived promptly. If you intend to install it in a wooden door, then it is worth having the right tools handy and buying four long life AA batteries in advance.Very straightforward to install yourself , but ideally you really need a drill, two drill bits, an electric jigsaw, file and sandpaper. It took under an hour including reading all the instructions and having a cup of tea. There is a very comprehensive instruction guide. What really impressed me was the fact that it automatically recognised the chip! I thought I would have to mess about trying to type it in, but as soon as the cat goes through, it memorises it for you and keeps out any intruders. Don’t do what I did. I was so pleased to get it fitted that I thought I had to push the cat through the first time, which is a bad idea. Instead read all the instructions, leave it in memory mode and perhaps encourage the cat through, by putting some food on the other side. We used this method to train and encourage our cat to get used to going both ways through the flap and now she is really confident anyway. In summary, a marvellous device, which is smart, works very well, has changed our lives and is worth every penny.
